Ruth Chatterton was an American actress, novelist, and early aviatrix. She was born in New York City and started her acting career on stage before moving to Hollywood where she appeared in a number of films between 1928-38. She came our of retirment in the late 1940s and appeared in TV productions. After retiring from acting, she became a novelist.
