If Arctic Void had taken not just its setting from the Cold War but some plot tips from some of that era’s more paranoid thrillers, it would have been a lot better off. Instead, it’s a frustrating watch that crashes just short of the finish line.
Arctic Void is a low-budget indie film shot in less than three weeks on location in Norway’s Svalbard archipelago, only 600 miles from the North Pole. As the publicity team shared, “the village is Pyramiden, an abandoned Russian coal mine where only one building had power and shooting exteriors required constant protection from polar bears.”
Arctic Void. When almost everyone vanishes from a tourist ship in the Arctic, fear becomes the master for the three who remain. Forced ashore and alone in the elements, the men deteriorate in body and mind with the clock now ticking on their survival. In the end, a dark truth emerges that forces them to ally or perish.

The animal attack CG animations are exceptional and pretty gruesome. The actors playing the tourists are OK, but big props to Rune Tempte, who plays the ship’s captain.
