  7. The Mar-Keys. Rhythm & blues group, formed 1958 in Memphis, Tennessee. The Mar-Keys (originally named The Royal Spades) were the backing band on many early Stax releases but also recorded singles of their own. In 1962 the rhythm section more or less evolved into Booker T & The MG's and later the horn section into The Memphis Horns.
