Sir Martin Archer Shee (* 23. Dezember 1769 in Dublin; † 13. August 1850 in Brighton, Sussex) war ein aus Irland stammender Porträtmaler, der von 1830 bis 1850 Präsident der Royal Academy of Arts war.

22. Apr. 2022 · Shee travelled to Paris in September 1802 with other artists to view the collections of artworks looted by Napoleonic armies and on display in the Louvre. He also had the opportunity to observe Napoleon at close hand, noting in his letters and journal his admiration for the French leader.
Sir Martin Archer Shee. 1769 - 1850. Shee was born in Dublin; he studied and painted portraits there until 1788 when he moved to London. He entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1790 and was made President of the Academy in 1830, in succession to Lawrence.

Shee, Sir Martin Archer (1769–1850), portrait painter, poet, and novelist, was born 20 December 1769 in Dublin, the youngest of four children of Martin Shee, merchant, and Mary Shee (née Archer), both of Dublin. His mother died during his early infancy, and he was raised with his siblings by his maternal aunt.
