His second wife, Empress Marie-Louise, was the widow of Napoleon and a daughter of Francis II, the last Holy Roman Emperor and founding Emperor of the Austrian Empire.

Marie Louise married Count Charles-René de Bombelles, her chamberlain, in 1834. She died in Parma in 1847.
