Masque. [1919] Janco's masks, which were worn for Dada performances, readings and dances in the Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich, were invested with a magical function and a metamorphic power. Marcel Janco participated in the first Dada events, notably through his costumes and masks made from pieces of cardboard, newspapers, wire thread and twine.

Marcel Janco (1895–1984) Born in Bucharest. As a teenager, Marcel Janco studied painting with the artist Iosif Iser. At secondary school he joined a student group that published an avant-garde journal for literature and art. In 1915, he traveled to Zurich to study architecture at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology.

In the midst of second World War in 1941 he succeeded to reach Israel. He settled in Tel-Aviv and taught painting. In 1953 he founded the Ein-Hod artist village.
Marcel Janco was a pioneer of Dadaism and Constructivism in Eastern Europe and an influential figure in the art world during the interwar period.
