Actor Doug Jones was confused by his character's promotion, remembering it was supposed to be Ambassador, not Admiral while filming. Admiral Charles Vance addresses Saru as Admiral instead of Ambassador during the wedding ceremony.

With the merging of two alien cultures, Saru and T'Rina have one of the most beautiful weddings that has ever been shown on Star Trek. When I asked Jones about changing his look for these scenes, he had nothing but lovely things to say about costume designer Anthony Tran.
