11. Mai 2024 · In July 1948, six Vampire F.3 aircraft from No 54 Squadron, RAF Odiham, completed the first transatlantic crossing by jet aircraft. The Vampires left Stornoway on Monday 12 July and made the 2,203 mile ocean crossing in a flying time of eight hours and eighteen minutes. The trip was accomplished on three legs.
