Beeindruckt von diesen Erfolgserlebnissen wagte ich mich an das verschmähte "The Last Days Of The Century" (ein kostengünstiges Exemplar von "Russians and Americans" konnte ich bisher leider noch nicht ergattern) und war beim ersten Durchhören offen gesagt etwas enttäuscht. Der klassische 80er-Synth-Sound, den Stewart schon beim letzten Album etablierte, ist auch hier gut und präsent zu hören, dennoch gibt es hin und auch wieder handfesteren, klassischen Rock.

Last days of the century is het tiende studioalbum van Al Stewart. Het behaalde geen enkele hitnotering. De single Port of Portugal kon daar niets aan veranderen. De musici die op dit album meespeelden, zijn deels dezelfde als die op zijn album Year of the cat. Het album is opgenomen in de Capitol B. Studio in Los Angeles.
