Dennis Weaver. William Dennis Weaver was an American actor, best known for his work in television, including roles on Gunsmoke, as Marshal Sam McCloud on the NBC police drama McCloud, and the 1971 TV movie Duel. Weaver was born in Joplin, Missouri, the son of Lena Prather and Walter Weaver, of Irish, Scottish, English, Cherokee and Osage ancestry.
Childhood & Early Life. William Dennis Weaver was born on June 4, 1924, in Joplin, Missouri, to Walter Leon Weaver and his wife, Lenna Leora Prather. His father was of English, Irish, Scottish, Cherokee, and Osage descent. For several years, William lived in Shreveport, Louisiana. He then moved to Manteca, California, for a brief period.
