Cadets are provided with a unique and comprehensive education, focused on the profession of arms and coupled with military and athletic training experiences. At the U.S. Air Force Academy, military education plays a critical role in preparing cadets to become leaders in the Cadet Wing and later, in the Air Force and Space Force.
The Air Force Academy is both a military organization and a university. Much of the Academy is set up like most other Air Force bases, particularly the 10th Air Base Wing, but the superintendent, commandant, dean of faculty and cadet wing are set up in a manner resembling a civilian university.
AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERING. In the aeronautical engineering major, cadets study aerodynamics, propulsion, flight mechanics, stability and control, aircraft structures, materials and experimental methods. As part of their senior year capstone, cadets select either of the two-course design sequences, aircraft design or aircraft engine design.
