There is a thriving School of Nursing midwifery practice. We have an extensive nurse-midwifery faculty practice that provides outpatient care at three clinics and intrapartum care at a free-standing birth center and Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The practice provides a complete range of health services for women/individuals.

Post-master’s certificate (PMC) students must successfully complete all didactic and clinical requirements of the desired area of practice. In order to obtain a PMC in nurse-midwifery or in a nurse practitioner specialty, students are required to complete a minimum of 500 supervised hours in direct patient care.
For students who want to treat primary care problems, a post-master’s degree in the Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner specialty can be completed over another year (3 semesters) of approximately 21 credit hours. If you have a bachelor’s degree or higher in a field other than nursing, you can complete a one year full-time baccalaureate equivalent program (PreSpecialty Year - Clinical Experiences), and then progress to the Family Nurse Practitioner specialty. If you have a BSN, you enter directly into the specialty course work. All students, regardless of entry type, graduate with a MSN.
