Hideki Tojo was Prime Minister of Japan when the attack on Pearl Harbour took place plunging the Far East into a war which was to end with the destruction of Hiroshima in August 1945. For his part in leading Japan into World War Two, Tojo was executed as a war criminal.

  6. Description. Military officer, statesman. Born in Tokyo as a son of Hidenori Tojo, a military officer. He graduated from the Military Academy and the Army War College. He became chief of staff of the Kanto Army in 1937 and Vice War Minister in the following year. Fully displaying his talent as an able official, he was called "Razor Tojo".

  7. Description. Military officer. Born in Iwate, a son of the Nanbu Clan samurai Hidetoshi Tojo. He entered the army Kyododan (school for noncommissioned officers). In 1877, he served in the Satsuma Rebellion and became an second lieutenant. When the Army War College was opened, he was selected to enter it and studied under Klemens W.J. Meckel.
