1) First of all, Joachim Peiper was not involved with the Malmedy massacre, the only reason that he gets s much attention about it is because he was the responsible officer of the unit that shot the soldiers. What happened at Malmedy is to this day unknown. Actually that is pretty well known.
Every officer and man of Kampfgruppe Peiper had the feeling of absolute safety. Here a man was thinking and caring for them, made his decisions quickly, and issued his orders with precision. These decisions and orders were often bold and unorthodox, but they were issued from a sovereign command of the situation.
Joachim Peiper zog in den 1960er Jahren nach Traves in Frankreich. Das kam 1976 an die Öffentlichkeit und die Presse berichtete. Joachim Peiper erhielt drauf eine Morddrohung von acht „Rächern“ des „Aktionskomitee Widerstand-Deportation“. Er schickte daraufhin seine Familie nach Deutschland, blieb aber selbst in Traves.
