Leo Szilard (Leo Silard) ( Budimpešta, 11. veljače 1898. - La Jolla, Kalifornija, 30. svibnja 1964 .), mađarski fizičar, idejni začetnik nuklearne lančane reakcije. Zajedno s talijanskim fizičarem Enricom Fermijem patentirao je ideju nuklearnog reaktora. Prvi nuklearni reaktor izgradio je Enrico Fermi.
Mit ihm gemeinsam arbeiteten auch Edward Teller, John von Neumann und Leó Szilárd. Alle vier Wissenschaftler waren ungarischer Abstammung und wurden wegen ihrer „überirdischen“ geistigen Fähigkeiten von ihren amerikanischen Kollegen als „Marsianer“ bezeichnet.
