College of the Atlantic (COA) is a private liberal arts college in Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island, Maine. Founded in 1969, it awards bachelors and masters degrees solely in the field of human ecology, an interdisciplinary approach to learning.

At COA you hold in your own hands the freedom, and responsibility, of building your educational path. Each student designs their own course of study, pursuing their unique interests and goals through a wide range classes across the sciences, arts, humanities, and social sciences.
Academics. Faculty Jodi Baker teaches classes in writing for the stage, as well as performance and movement. Students in the Geology of Mount Desert Island class practice using a compass and taking field notes at Seawall Beach in Acadia National Park. Faculty member Davis Taylor teaches economics.
