Neil began to play around the age of 6 and became an accomplished classical pianist, encouraged by his cousin Morgan Fisher, the long-time keyboard player in Mott The Hoople. Switching to drums at 12 and moving to London in 1979 he toured Europe and recorded the first five albums with Prefab Sprout, playing on all of their most treasured recordings.

Neil Conti rejoined for the live shows, but Wendy Smith’s new job in music therapy meant that she was unable to participate in the band’s first tour since 1990. Sadly, they are almost certain to be the last Prefab shows, as Paddy McAloon’s hearing problems make playing live impossible now.
