22. Apr. 2018 · Wenn sich auch Auguste Rodin für viele Frauen interessierte, so führte er dennoch eine lange Beziehung mit der Näherin Rose Beuret (1844–1917). Diese begann bereits 1864 und führte zu einem gemeinsamen Kind. Auguste Rodin heiratete Rose zwei Wochen vor ihrem Tod im Februar 1917. Wenige Monate später verstarb Rodin im Alter von 77 Jahren in Meudon, wo er auch bestattet wurde.
Claudel started working in Rodin's workshop around 1884, and became a source of inspiration for him. She acted as his model, his confidante, and his lover. She never lived with Rodin, who was reluctant to end his 20-year relationship with Rose Beuret.

Mignon is the first of Rodin’s portraits of Rose Beuret, a seamstress he met in 1864 who became his studio helper, the mother of his son Auguste-Eugène, and his lifelong companion—despite the artist’s inability to remain faithful to her. They married only in 1917, the year they both died, she of pneumonia, and he several months later from complications of a stroke.
