Stormwatch è considerato il terzo e ultimo album di una trilogia di folk rock, completata dai precedenti Songs from the Wood e Heavy Horses . In quest'album il rapporto fra uomo e natura è il tema predominante ed esso viene visto con un certo pessimismo.
Kurz nach Veröffentlichung von Stormwatch verstarb Glascock. Dies führte auch zum Ende der klassischen Tull-Besetzung. Die Bandmitglieder Barlow, Evan und Palmer verließen Anfang 1980 Jethro Tull. irgendwie war wohl die Luft raus. Nur Frontmann Ian Anderson und sein Gitarrist Martin Barre machten unter den Bandnamen weiter.

Okt. 2019 · With a catalogue of work as strong as Tull’s, Stormwatch may not rank a favourite amongst many – neither the best nor their worst work but a decent mid table work – so there’s the obvious chance to reassess the album itself. One that often gets a raw deal, it’s new lease of life reveals a few pleasant reminders and surprises.

Sept. 2023 · Stormwatch was also the last album made by what is widely considered to be the classic line-up of Jethro Tull: Anderson, Martin Barre, keyboard player John Evan, drummer Barriemore Barlow, bassist John Glascock and keyboard player and orchestral arranger David Palmer. And, just two months after it was released, Glascock died at the age of twenty-eight as a result of a congenital heart condition.
