20. Nov. 2020 · American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey has released a new track called ‘Summertime The Gershwin Version’. Her interpretation of Gershwin ’s American musical standard benefits both the New York and Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestras, whose concerts have been cancelled through summer 2021 due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
Hopefully the primary value this will provide is to introduce Lana listeners to some of the truly great renditions of this song. Lana's version is nice, but she rides on the tone of her voice a little too much, in my opinion. This song's message is achingly beautiful and tragic, and that message simply is not present here.
