1. Jan. 2024 · At the AFI Conservatory we believe in filmmaking first. Filmmakers come to AFI because they are guaranteed to make movies, and to master not only the tools, but also the art of storytelling. AFI isn’t like any other graduate film school in Los Angeles or the nation.
Located in the filmmaking capital of the world, the AFI Conservatory is nestled in the hills overlooking Hollywood. The picturesque eight-acre campus is in the center of the professional filmmaking community with easy access to studios, networks and post-production facilities.
The AFI Conservatory is a private non-profit graduate film school in the Hollywood Hills district of Los Angeles. Students (called "Fellows") learn from the masters in a collaborative, hands-on production environment with an emphasis on storytelling .
The AFI Conservatory MFA Cinematography program teaches filmmakers the skills needed to be an expert in the technical aspects of cinematography and how to make fast, informed and inspired creative decisions.

The AFI Conservatory MFA Directing program teaches filmmakers how to work with actors, analyze scripts, develop a unique narrative point of view and visual design for each project, collaborate with other departments, pitch projects and more.
9. Aug. 2023 · In 1969, AFI opened the doors of the AFI Conservatory, a graduate-level program to train narrative filmmakers. The Conservatory, which counts Deniese Davis, Affonso Gonçalves, Susannah Grant, Matthew Libatique, David Lynch, Melina Matsoukas and Rachel Morrison as Alumni, is ranked the #1 film school in America.
