Robert Edwin Peary was born in Cresson, Pennsylvania, on May 6, 1856. At the age of 25 he became a civil engineer in the United States Navy. In 1886 Peary made his first trip to the far north, visiting the Greenland ice cap. From then on the lure of the Arctic was in his blood.

Robert Edwin Peary (født 6. maj 1856, død 20. februar 1920) var en amerikansk opdagelsesrejsende, som påstod at have været den første person på den geografiske nordpol.
