From 1919 to 1965, it was named the Winter Garden Theatre, but after renovations, the theatre opened as the New London Theatre in 1973. The theatre housed Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats, which was the longest-running musical in West End history when it closed in 2002.

About the Gillian Lynne Theatre. The Gillian Lynne Theatre made history in 2018 when it became the first West End venue to be named after a woman. This was in honour of Dame Gillian’s outstanding contribution to musical theatre – primarily as choreographer of the groundbreaking production of Cats, which ran here for over 21 years.
