  3. Elkhart History – Charles Gordone To celebrate Black History Month, Elkhart Public Library is highlighting great individuals that have called Elkhart home. In this piece we look at Charles Gordone, an Elkhart High School graduate who went on to be an actor, director and playwright, his play “No Place to Be Somebody” won the 1970 Pulitzer Prize.

  4. Charles Gordone began teaching in the English and Drama departments at Texas A&M University in 1986. He was a very popular instructor and continued to teach at the College Station campus until his death in 1995. Since then, the Department of English has competition in both poetry and fiction to celebrate his contributions to the Texas A&M community.
