Giant Steps. Giant Steps is a studio album by the jazz musician John Coltrane. It was released in February 1960 through Atlantic Records. [1] [2] [4] This was Coltrane's first album as leader for the label, with which he had signed a new contract the previous year. The record is regarded as one of the most influential jazz albums of all time.
John William Coltrane (født 23. september 1926 i Hamlet i Nord-Carolina i USA, død 17. juli 1967 i New York) var en amerikansk jazzsaksofonist (tenor-og sopransaksofon og fløyte). Coltrane was the son of John R. Coltrane, a tailor and amateur musician, and Alice (Blair) Coltrane. Two months after his birth, his maternal grandfather, the Reverend William Blair, was promoted to presiding elder in the A.M.E. Zion Church and moved his family, including his infant grandson, to High Point, NC, where Coltrane grew up.
