Sept. 2018 · This is undoubtedly Jóhannsson at his peak, a soundtrack for a film that rests heavily on his input (seriously, I don’t think there was a minute of Mandy that didn’t have background music). Collaborating with Sunn O)))’s Stephen O’Malley, you get the sense he had a lot of fun with this palette of sludgy black-metal guitar and warbly synths.
The song was originally called Brandy. The bit about "Mandy" being about Manilow's dog is an urban myth. Songwriter and original performer Scott English says he was woken by a phone call from a reporter, wanting to know who "Brandy" was.
