In the summer of 2018 Luzhniki was the main stadium for the FIFA World Cup. The Big Sports Arena hosted the opening match, three group-stage matches, a round-of-16 match, a semi-final and the final. Forty-five facilities were built or upgraded in the Olympic Complex for the FIFA World Cup.
