Aug. 2024 · We show that selection to resolve genetic conflict alters the evolutionary landscape of lysogen populations and that spontaneous induction rates correlate with the type of conflict resolution. Experimental work combined with genomic analysis demonstrates that transposable phages are a major source of variation beyond mutation that impacts the evolutionary direction of P. aeruginosa lysogens.
