Apr. 2024 · Chen Ning Yang (born September 22, 1922, Hofei, Anhwei, China) is a Chinese-born American theoretical physicist whose research with Tsung-Dao Lee showed that parity—the symmetry between physical phenomena occurring in right-handed and left-handed coordinate systems—is violated when certain elementary particles decay.
Biographical. Chen Ning Yang was born on September 22, 1922, in Hofei, Anwhei, China, the first of five children of Ke Chuan Yang and Meng Hwa Loh Yang. He is also known as Frank or Franklin.
Professor Chen Ning Yang who together with TD Lee won the Nobel Prize in physics in 1957 for the discovery of non-conservation of parity in weak interaction, is also the author (with Robert Mills) of the modern non-Abelian gauge theory of 1954, which subsequently became the foundation of the standard model of elementary particle interactions.
