Anhedonia war sein erster Spielfilm in Kinolänge. Die Ursprungsidee eines gelangweilten Geschwisterpaares wurde durch Zimmers Beschäftigung mit Marshall McLuhans Aufsatz „Verliebt in seine Apparate ‒ Narzissmus als Narkose“ inspiriert.
