Captain Carey, U.S.A. (1949) was bringing enough excitement for me. The mystery of it wasn't quite layered for a major experience, but here I felt Alan Ladd fit in for a little post-war action. Especially when doing the investigation into what happened one night during the war and people were trying to stop him.
Fairly obscure today, Captain Carey, U.S.A. is remembered almost exclusively for its introduction of the pop ballad Mona Lisa, which soon became a #1 radio hit for Nat King Cole. Written by Ray Evans and Jay Livingston, the tune won the Oscar for Best Original Song of 1950, besting Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo from Disney's Cinderella .
