Earl of Chatham, of Chatham in the County of Kent, was a title in the Peerage of Great Britain. It was created in 1766 for William Pitt the Elder on his appointment as Lord Privy Seal, along with the subsidiary title Viscount Pitt, of Burton Pynsent in the County of Somerset, also in the Peerage of Great Britain.

Sir John Pitt was a member of the aristocracy in British Isles. John Pitt, 2nd Earl of Chatham, KG, PC was born in the early hours of the morning of 10th October 1756 to William Pitt, Earl of Chatham, and his wife, Hester at the family's estate in Kent named Hayes Place. [1] John was the first son of the couple who had married two years prior.
