From Georgia O’Keeffe to Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko to Louise Nevelson, Ai Weiwei to James Little, the Art Students League has been a major force in shaping American art. Created in 1875, at the dawn of New York’s influence in the international art scene, a small group of tenacious artists broke off from the National Academy of Design.
At the Art Students League of New York, students are empowered to design their own curriculum, learn at their own pace, and choose from an unmatched selection of atelier-style classes in painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, and more. There are no entrance requirements or examinations, and no previous art experience is needed to begin taking classes.
Taught by the same renowned instructors who teach our legendary monthly classes, The League's workshops allow students to devote a week, or even just a weekend, to a special topic or technique. The Art Students League of New York is authorized under Federal law to enroll nonimmigrant alien students. International Students are permitted to concentrate only in Four-Year Painting, Printmaking, or Sculpture Certificate Programs. Concentrations in Mixed Media, Drawing, and the Two-Year Certificate Program are not approved by SEVP.
