Budiansky widmet sich aber auch einfühlsam den Krankheiten und psychischen Krisen, die Kurt Gödels Leben überschatteten und in seinem Fall die sprichwörtliche Nähe von Genie und Wahnsinn tragisch dokumentieren. Als Gödel, ab 1970 zunehmend unter Wahnvorstellungen und Vergiftungsängsten leidend, 1978 in Princeton starb, wog er gerade einmal 30 Kilo.
