The cyclotron and its successors have been integral to the field of high-energy physics.
Ernest Orlando Lawrence died on Aug. 27, 1958, at the age of 57. He was survived by his wife, Molly, and their six children, Eric, Margaret, Mary, Robert, Barbara, and Susan. He had won virtually every major award in his field.
