    Alexius Meinong kommt 1853 als Ritter von Handschuchsheim in Lemberg zur Welt. Nach dem Studium der Geschichte an der Wiener Universität wendet er sich beeinflußt von Franz Brentano der Philosophie zu. Er promoviert 1874 bei Brentano und habilitiert sich vier Jahre später mit einer Arbeit über Hume. Von 1882 bis zu seinem Tod ist Meinong Ordinarius für Philosophie in Graz.
