Dez. 2023 · Professor Sir Gordon Conway was remembered as a trail-blazing agricultural ecologist and entomologist, who used his scientific expertise to tackle food security and agriculture in the Global South. Professor Conway’s family, friends, colleagues, as well as key figures in international development and agricultural policy, gathered to pay him tribute.
Sir Gordon Richard Conway is an agricultural ecologist and Professor of International Development at the Centre for Environmental Policy of Imperial College of London. Gordon was a pioneer of sustainable agriculture and also served as President of the Rockefeller Foundation, Chief Scientific Adviser to DFID, and was a former President of the Royal Geographical Society.

As a pioneer in the sustainable management of agricultural land, Gordon applied his knowledge for the benefit of the developing world, having worked extensively in Borneo, Indonesia, Thailand and later in Sub-Saharan Africa.
8. Aug. 2023 · Sir Gordon Conway, who was the University’s Vice-Chancellor between 1992 and 1998, has died. Joining Sussex in 1992, he played a foundational role in the establishment of the Brighton and Sussex Medical School, and was instrumental in the appointment of one of the University's most ardent supporters, Lord Attenborough, to the role of Chancellor.
