And his work with Tex-Mex supergroup Los Super Seven (which also included Freddy Fender, Flaco Jiménez, and Doug Sahm) earned him a Grammy for Best Mexican/Mexican American Album in 1998. He’s also an author, having published both a memoir and a novel.
