Elton John's song Levon. Bernie Taupin originally said he named the song after one of his favorite musicians, Levon Helm, but Helm reacted negatively to the song, purportedly saying, "Englishmen shouldn't fuck with Americanisms." A bit unnecessarily cold in my opinion.

21. Mai 2024 · Helm developed a local reputation in Arkansas as a good drummer. Ronnie Hawkins asked him to join his band, the Hawks, in 1957. Levon was only 17 years old. Hawkins never did have that much success in the U.S., but he was very popular in Canada, as was rockabilly generally.
