Vor 5 Tagen · Since 2009 the Trust has worked to built the Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Museum & Learning Centre in Sobukwe's birthplace uMasizakhe in Graaff-Reinet. A key element of this initiative is the establishment of the Sobukwe Archive and Museum.
30. Mai 2024 · Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe was the founder of the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) in April 1959. He was instrumental in the PAC's anti-pass campaign, which was launched on the 21 March 1960, and which culminated in what was later to became known as the Sharpeville Massacre.
10. Juni 2024 · THE late struggle hero, Robert Sobukwe might be gone, but his life is still celebrated. He has touched and changed many lives with his work and fight against injustices during the apartheid era. He died in 1978 at the age of 53 leaving behind his wife, Zondeni Sobukwe and children.

The prison closed in 1983 due to overcrowding, and the inmates moved to a newly built prison that was given the nickname “Sun City” – after the hotel resort, because of its comparative luxury!

4. Juni 2024 · Robert Sobukwe’s Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) broke away from the ANC in 1959. It objected to the ANC’s relationship with communists, its belief that “the land belongs to all who live in it, both white and black”, and to its multiracial world view.
