Within the US Army, Brubeck formed one of the first racially diverse bands. In 1951, Brubeck formed the Dave Brubeck Quartet, which kept its name despite shifting personnel. The most successful—and prolific—lineup of the quartet was the one between 1958 and 1968.
The Dave Brubeck Quartet was a jazz quartet founded in 1951 by Dave Brubeck on piano together with Paul Desmond on saxophone. The Dave Brubeck Quartet disbanded in 1967, and only met again for its 25th anniversary in 1976.
