In the 80’s he formed a duo with Barry “the Fish” Melton (of Country Joe & the Fish). They were officially the Barry Melton-John Cippolina Band, but my friends referred to them as Fish & Chips. There are some videos on YT. Cippolina was only 45 when he died from emphysema. Much too young.

We've discussed this question a few times on this sub, and I think Werewolves was the winner of shortest time from release to being covered by the Dead. Werewolves was released in March of 1978 (per Wikipedia) and was first covered by the Dead a few weeks later, 4/19/78.
