His widow, Barbara, married Bobby Womack less than three months after Sam's death. Particularly infuriating to the Cooke family was the fact that Womack was wearing one of Sam's suits.

Remarkably, the unlikely pair struck up a friendship, a partnership that led to 2012’s The Bravest Man in the Universe, Womack’s first album in 13 years.
