Ende 1925 entstanden die »Hot Five« mit Louis, Lil, dem Posaunisten Kid Ory, dem Klarinettisten Johnny Dodds und Johnny St. Cyr am Banjo – eine ungewöhnliche Formation, zugeschnitten auf die Bedürfnisse des Plattenstudios.
