10. Juni 2024 · As with many great artists, he died way too young at age 26. Stax music was experiencing some real success when Redding and many band members died in a plane crash. As a photojournalist in Memphis, over the years I covered the only survivor of that plane crash, Ben Cauley.
9. Juni 2024 · Trumpeter Ben Cauley was the sole survivor of the crash, seated directly behind Redding, who was strapped into the co-pilot’s seat. Bassist James Alexander had been on another plane. Cauley and Alexander later re-assembled the group with a new lineup, who went on to great success as funk superstars during the seventies and beyond.

One member of The Bar-Kays survived the crash, trumpeter Ben Cauley. James Alexander was not on the plane that did not have enough room for everyone in the band.

21. Juni 2024 · Trumpeter Ben Cauley, Bassist James Alexander and producer Allen Jones assembled a new lineup and became the Stax house band. The 1978 they released ‘Money Talks’, in fact an album of unreleased Stax material. ‘Money Talks’ is the essence of late 70’s funk.
