Ronald Arbuthnott Knox (17 February 1888 – 24 August 1957) was an English Catholic priest, theologian, author, and radio broadcaster. Educated at Eton and Balliol College, Oxford, where he earned a high reputation as a classicist, Knox was ordained as a priest of the Church of England in 1912.
Ronald Knox was an English author, theologian, and dignitary of the Roman Catholic Church, best known for his translation of the Bible. Born into an Anglican family, he was educated at Balliol College, Oxford, and in 1912 was appointed chaplain of Trinity College, Oxford. He became a Roman Catholic.
In the star-studded firmament of Eton and Oxford before World War I, Ronald Knox’s light shone among the brightest. And while today his reputation rests on other works, he wrote some of the cleverest Greek and Latin verse that I’ve ever seen.
