21. Mai 2024 · Born in 41/661, a year marked by the death of ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib and the accession of Muʿāwiya b. Abī Sufyān (r. 41–60/661–680) to the caliphate, al-Ḥajjāj’s early life coincided with a pivotal period of transition in Islamic leadership. He was from the Thaqafī tribe, albeit a minor branch, in Ṭāʾif.
Vor 6 Tagen · Muʿāwiyah ibn Abī Sufyān, an Umayyad and the governor of Syria, refused to pledge allegiance to ʿAlī. In 657, at the Battle of Ṣiffīn , ʿAlī agreed to arbitration with Muʿāwiyah, effectively conceding his claim to be the sole leader of the Muslim community.
