Soaring is an album by trumpeter Don Ellis recorded in 1973 and released on the MPS label. The album features Hank Levy's composition which provided the title for, and was featured in, the 2014 film Whiplash.

In 1973, trumpeter Ellis and orchestra recorded two albums for MPS. This first album is titled Soaring ; the scintillating music created by 22 musicians, including a 12-piece horn section, three percussionists, and a string quartet provides a shimmering, translucent texture captured in a Hollywood studio at the zenith of the band’s abilities.
Soaring (1973) temporarily disengages the commercial approach found in Connection and continues the musical direction set by Tears of Joy. Soaring contains the last recorded examples of Ellis’s use of the echoplex, and also capture Ellis’s performance on drums. Ellis composed four of the eight original selections.
