29. Okt. 2023 · This week, we’re sampling one of Buddy’s best: a 1953 LP featuring his quartet of drummer Art Blakey, pianist Kenny Drew and the incredible Milt Hinton on double bass.
Arthur William „Art“ Blakey war ein US-amerikanischer Jazz-Schlagzeuger und Bandleader. Mit seinem unvergleichlichen Stil gehört er zu den wichtigsten Wegbereitern des modernen Schlagzeugspiels unserer Tage.
Even the drummer Art Blakey, certainly not a composer, contributed a piece. His “Ferdinando” revives the most masterful swing riffs of 1940 — those of Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton and Charlie Christian, which were a big help to the pioneers around Charlie Parker back then. Mr. Clarinet is the best clarinet bebop album we will ever hear.
