Andy Chapin was an English keyboardist best known for his short stint with the Ricky Nelson Band, which ended in 1985 when he and his bandmates died after their plane crashed on New Year's Eve in De Kalb, Texas while en route to a performance in Dallas, Texas.
Kay fired McJohn the following February, with Andy Chapin taking his place. The new keyboardist declined to tour with the group, however, and was replaced by Wayne Cook. The band released three studio albums during its second tenure, before disbanding in late 1976.
1974: After a successful farewell tour of Europe, Steppenwolf is reborn, this time with Kay, Edmonton, McJohn, Biondo and new guitarist Bobby Cochran. In the ensuing period, McJohn departs, replaced by Andy Chapin (who later died in the Rick Nelson plane crash). Chapin is replaced by Wayne Cook.
12. Juli 2023 · It was released in 1975 before one of the band's many break-ups, and Chapin went on to become a member of Ricky Nelson's band. When Nelson was killed in a New Year's Eve 1985-1986 plane crash, he wasn't alone: Although the pilot and copilot survived, six others lost their lives that day. Tragically, Chapin was one of them.
